For that outdoor trip

I wonder if we moms will allow that because we are not sure how safe our kids will be out there. Anyways, I hope all is well that ends well. :)

Yesterday, my husband, kids and I had a nice family discussion after a few days. My husband and I were busy at our jobs and the kids had some mid-term examinations that they needed to concentrate on. As usual, what turned to be a nice chat by the fireside quickly transformed in to a heated debate (Well, that's the way we like it.. ;-) ). My husband and I took opposite teams with each one of us taking a kid as our partner. I took the side recommending that advertisements are necessary for products to reach consumers and my husband took the opposite stance. Well, we started by asking the primary question how companies expected consumers to know that they have launched a new product. Our "opponents" said that the products could go to the shops directly where consumers could see them and buy them if necessary. Well, I told them about my friend's company which had hired a nice New York video production company which produced a great video advertisement for them. Their product was launched to a huge reception thanks to the advertisement. This increased sales a lot for them. Well, after this argument, they switched to the point that a lot of advertisements are a little exaggerated. And we hit back with the point that it is necessary in order to attract the attention of the customer. I've got to go know and I will tell you about the rest of the debate tomorrow.

For the past few days, it is hard to believe how hard people are stressed out and depressed because of their hectic job schedule. The means by which a person tries to overcome these two devils is by going out to relax and have a peaceful few hours or days. The thing that my father is amazed the most about is the digitization of yellow pages. In his days, the yellow pages was a big thing where you could look up anything and everything. But the catch was that you had to know what you were looking for and things were not so categorized and easy to search. Enter the digital age - and voila!! Today, any Business Directory has the ability to provide searching capabilities based on various criteria that makes life a lot easier for us "young folks" (as my father likes to call this generation :) ). Just imagine how easy it has become to find a phone number or a business listing. We do it in a matter of seconds whereas decades ago it took quite a substantial amount of time. I wonder what the next big advancement in business listings will be..!!

Gun safes

I have told you people already that my husband is quite crazy about hunting, well - not only him, but also his friends. The kids in all these families are growing bigger at an unbelievable rate, and we mothers got together last week to have a serious discussion. The main focus of the discussion was to persuade our husbands to buy gun safes to keep the guns out of reach of our kids. Kids these days have an unexplainable attraction towards guns and we do not want any harm to come to our kids or to other people because we left the guns in our kids' reach. When we see so many shootings happening in schools today, I believe that this is a valid concern for us mothers to have. Some of us decided to present our husbands with a nice gun safe because a lot of birthdays and wedding anniversaries are coming up. The rest of us have decided to resort to simple persuasion. :-) Well, after that meeting, all our husbands shared our concerns and gun safes are coming to all our homes by the end of this week. So that was a nice thing we girls did.

For those troublesome teeth

My husband has had bad teeth for a long time. He is actually very clean with his teeth and brushes two times a day - as soon as he gets up and before he goes to sleep. But I do not understand how he can have so many problems with his teeth. Myself, I have never had any problems at all no matter how many sweets and stuff I eat. :) I guess that some people are just born lucky. I just hope that my children have not inherited his teeth problems. :-? Anyway, his teeth problem came up again yesterday and he was in a lot of pain. I took him to a Beverly Hills dentures specialist and told the doctor about my husband's recurring problems with his teeth. I was relieved when the dentist told me that many people have such congenital teeth problems and it was nothing to worry about. With all the cancer running rampage, I have always had the hidden fear that my husband's teeth problems may manifest into tooth cancer one day. However, the nice doctor alleviated all my fears. My husband is going to replace a few teeth of his so that he does not have to deal with all the problems that they have been causing. :-D

To Protect

Yippee!!! My husband has got a promotion at his job. With his new position, he manages over a hundred people under him. Wow!! Isn't that cool? I was really so happy to know that all the hard work that he put in has paid off now. He was so excited and exhilarated. I have decided to throw a party to let our friends and family in on the celebration. I have to talk to the kids to decide the exact dates because they seem to have some kind of evaluation exams coming up. So once that is done, I am going to fix up the party on a nice date when everyone can come over and have a great time. As usual, I have confided in my best friend about the party and she suggested that I use Beach Cities Protective Services to have some guards standing guard because of the spate of thefts that have been going on in our area. I felt that what she was saying was absolutely right because guests going home after the party can become easy targets for possible muggers and robbers and I do not want anything of that sort to happen to my friends and family.

My new iPod

I have always been a fan of music for as long as I can remember. I guess it is because my mother was a part of the Church choir and she used to take me along for all the rehearsals. Anyway, after that I learned to play the piano and became a huge fan of classical masters like Beethoven, Mozart, etc.,. Though I am not so good at composing my own songs, I like music a lot. I guess you do not need to be an artist to admire art. :) Back then, we used to listen to music on magnetic tapes put into tape recorders but these days, this kind of equipment has become equipment. We have got CDs, online radio and a myriad of mind boggling gadgets that we can use. Anyway, since my office work has resulted in me traveling for long periods of time, I was stumped because I wanted to listen to music as much as possible. I decided that the best thing to do was to buy a cheap ipod and take it along with me so that I can get my share of music while I travel. I guess that would do because it will be really light and feature packed as well.

My husband and I have a lot of property lying around all over the country. We made some intelligent investments over the years and it is all bearing fruit with the price of real estate going up again. We faced a crunch situation during the recession, but we have been able to escape it just fine. We were just sitting and talking about the possibility of selling of a house we have over in the countryside to buy some other house in the city. We looked up the land prices and stuff and found them to be pretty satisfactory. The next step was to go to a real estate agent and tell him to find a buyer for our house. We have also planned to put some led signs telling that the house is for our sale on our property. I think that it would be a nice touch because the sign will be visible even in the night and more people are bound to see it as they travel along the road beside which the house lies. My husband also liked the idea and told me it was brilliant... :-) (This is the part where I blush.. ;-)) Anyway, I hope that things go well and we find a good buyer.

Tragic news

I am feeling very down now. I know that is not the way to feel in this new year, but a phone call two minutes back turned everything upside down. I have never felt so depressed in my life. If you people are wondering what this whining is all about, well, I have just been told that my sister was involved in a horrible car crash. The sadder thing is that this had happened yesterday and her husband told me just now. She was hit by a drunken driver and there seems to have been no mistake at all on my sister's part. Hmmm... I guess that these kinds of things do happen. Anyway, it is already done and I guess that the next logical thing to do would be to think about the future. My sister seems to be recovering fast and the doctors have informed her husband that there is going to be no lasting damage. Actually, he called me up happily and told me about all this. He was even going to some collision repair right away to fix the car. Whew.. I guess I am recovering now fast enough considering the fact that my sister is going to be all right pretty soon. I am going to wait for my husband to come back and discuss the possibility of flying over there and meeting her.

Turn up the heat

I totally forgot to tell you people about an important upgrade that my family has chose to do. We are going for a new residential heating system to overcome the bitter cold this year. My God!! I must say that temperatures are touching all new lows this year and I wonder if global warming or something like that has anything to do with it. Anyway, I hope things get better at least next year because I feel bad for all those homeless people out in the streets. The system that we have got (my husband's friend recommended it strongly) now seems to be state of the art in what it does, and I must say that it does a very good job. The kids like it as they do not have to huddle up in their beds shivering anymore. lol.. I wonder how effective other types of heating for homes are compared to the one that we have got, but we are not going to change it anytime soon. So I guess that I will have to depend on you people to know about other ways to heat up your house.

Different Destination - River Crusing

Hello everyone,

My husband and I have been discussing a lot about how to spend the summer vacations this year. Also, our wedding anniversary is just around the corner and we were in a stump about what to do this year. I mean, with the kids and the things that we have to do for them, we barely get time for us both to be alone. So, this year, we thought of going out river cruising to some fascinating places. You see, my husband and I were always travel freaks from our days together back in college. We have traveled to a lot of places (It would be a pretty long list if I told you about all of them here :-) ) and after our marriage, things have been a bit dull on the traveling side because of our kids and their needs. Since they are grown up now, we thought that a river cruise was the best way to get a shot back at our old traveling days. Well, we are planning on leaving two days before our anniversary and staying till two days after our anniversary. That should be five days in all and I think that is good enough time to enjoy a nice cruise in some exotic locations.

Clean, Green and Mean

I know that it is kind of late to be bringing up this topic right now but I guess that good things can be brought up at any point of time. With the winter season into its last stages, my family and I sat together and had a nice little discussion about what to do about the heater because our system kept on breaking down again and again which was quite annoying. I suggested that we grit it out till the end of the season and consider buying a new one during next winter. But my husband said that there was no need to wait when there was a nice waste oil heater Connecticut available that we could make use of right now. While there are so many things to be said about a nice clean heater, I guess I can add one more and say that I liked the idea because it was really environmentally friendly and suited my taste. The kids liked the idea too and they were glad that they need not endure the cold anymore because of the new heater that we were going to install in the next couple of days. We have already ordered it and it is due by today. Oooh!! We are all so excited.

For those wonderful times

Things have been very good since the beginning of the new year and I sincerely hope that they continue to be that way for the rest of the year, and the rest of my life, if that is possible. :-) I know that it is asking for too much but it never does hurt to hope for the best, does it? :-D Three of my friends have decided to get married within the next month. (I can see that bewildered expression your face.. :-P No, I am not kidding. I am just telling the plain old truth). How these people decided to get married at the same time, I am not sure. I guess it is one of those cosmic occurrences which happens every once in a pretty long while, but it has happened now and I have just got to deal with it. :) I feel very happy for them because they were hit big time by the recession, and now they have got back on to their own legs again. I suggested that they buy some discounted diamond engagement rings to give to their spouses because I did not want them to spend too much and be in trouble again. I checked out some of these rings and they are quite good. There is no compromise in quality whatsoever and in beauty either. So I guess it is a good buy for these newly-to-be-weds and I hope life offers the best it has to them.

For that special moment

I do not remember if I have told you people about my husband's obsession with that sport called hunting. Whenever a holiday comes, he is off with his friends to the woods to hunt and they camp for usually two or three days out in the woods. I wonder whatever has made him so addicted to the sport. Not to mention his friends, who are even more addicted than him. I have known them to skip work in order to satisfy their sudden urge to hunt. lol... We poor wives get together these "troubled times" and wonder what to do with our husbands. They have got all these guns, tents, rifle bipods and talk about stuff that is totally Greek and Latin to the whole bunch of us. Our kids listen with wide eyes to what they have to say, but we have just become plain bored of listening to their exploits over and over again that we just roll our eyes and wait for the worst to pass. I wonder if any of my readers face the same problem with their husbands with regards to hunting. (I am not up for hearing any other problems.. ;-) ). If so, please do drop by a word and I sincerely hope that we can wrench our guys away from this sport.. lol...

Suck the dust

The invention of the vacuum cleaner has made life a lot easier for women like me. I mean, with our busy work schedule and all that stuff, it is tough to maintain the house. I know that I could have hired a maid but cleaning one's house gives a sense of satisfaction that it is being properly maintained. I think that I will never hire a maid as long as I am alive because the idea just does not strike me to be too good. Imagine having to dust everything on the carpet yourself and all those tiny specks of dirt that you can do nothing about. If it were not for the vacuum cleaner, I shudder to think what we modern women would do. With comfort comes added cost - though that adage is true in most cases, it is not in the case of the vacuum cleaner because I have always been able to buy a few popular Miele vacuum cleaner models for very low prices. The great thing about that deal that I made was the high quality of the vacuum cleaners. My husband says that cheaper things are of cheaper quality and I guess that this case is an exception and I loved the look on his face when he saw the vacuum cleaners. Ha ha! What a surprise for him!!

WEIGHT LOSS!

I used to never bother with weight loss. That was when I was skinny as an electric pole. But now? This is a totally different discussion. I go gaga over weight loss. I am entitled! Yes I am! I have a few to lose anyhow.

Ha! I told myself last year, I resolved to lose a few pounds only to gain a few dress sizes. And for this year, I resolve to go at it again. As the old adage says, try and try, right? Only this try, I am becoming the “old” in the adage. LOL!

Yup old and hefty. Dadgumit this dawdling metabolism.

There is something about weight loss that produces the desperateness in my TV watching ability. Then, I used to be fascinated with dolphins swimming across the Pacific Ocean and other exotic destinations. Even though I run my own business, I wanted to get another degree. Well, the solution was pretty simple - online degrees. Now I am able to concentrate on my job as well as my studies. I can also take the course at my own sweet pace and it really helps me balance my work and studies. With the high amount of competition that everyone faces today, I sincerely believe that getting another degree is only an added advantage, and that too, when you can get it with so little effort, it would be a great mistake not to go for another degree. I am doing a Master's degree in marketing. I am pestering my husband too to go in for a degree of his own and I think he will do it. It should be really helpful for his promotion if he finishes a masters' degree.

My motorcycle freak

Well, there is something about my husband that I have not told you people about. He is a big time motorcycle freak. I can never get the names of all the bikes he is crazy about in my head even though I try my best to learn about them to engage in an intelligent conversation with him regarding his motorcycle craziness. I can remember his craziness all the way back from the days when we were in college together. He pestered his parents, worked hard in a part-time job - all to buy some shift racing gear which he showed off to his friends big time. Just like we women are obsessed with clothes and we can never seem to decide what to buy, my husband is always in a dilemma about what motorcycle gear to buy. The last time I saw him shopping online for some motorcycle gear, I laughed at him tearing his head off in indecisiveness about what helmet to buy for his old bike. Yes, he still has the bike that he used to ride in college. Talk about love for antiques!! :P Anyway, I must confess that we have had some pretty good trips on his bike and I can never forget the time we rode to the Grand Canyon during a particular weekend when we were together in college.

In bad times

There have been times in the recent past when I have been involved in some minor accidents. I can say in all honesty that in all of those instances, there was no error on my side. The first time was when my car was parked in a parking lot by a mall and some fellow scraped the entire side while taking out his car. I could not find out who it was because by the time I saw what happened, he had made good his escape. I had to buy a new rear view mirror from a auto body shop irvine and get it fixed. The second time, I was just driving in my own lane minding my own business when another guy cut across from the nearby lane and scraped my front side. I seriously wonder what kind of people are driving cars these days. It is quite an unnerving experience to be repeatedly "harassed" in this manner when I am driving as defensively as possible. Anyway, I went to the same shop again and fixed my head light. Thankfully, I had my insurance up to date and all these costs were covered without a hitch. I would like to advise my readers to drive as safely as possible. Stay safe friends!!

My part for the environment

People who know me personally will say without hesitation that I am very much an environment friendly person. For decades now, we have been torturing Mother Earth with all our destructive activities. Well, the excuse that we give is that we do it for our own comfort and survival. Take for example, the paper that all of us use in offices, schools and at home. Each paper is responsible for the destruction of a tree and imagine how many trees must be cut down each year in order to make paper for us. This is why I must emphasize how important it is for all of us to go for not only eco-friendly office supplies, but also other eco-friendly products such as recycled plastics, paper and so on. I myself am using recycled materials only for my office. There are a number of ways you can save paper. For example, you can reduce the amount of paper used in your office by transferring documents on to the computer. I admit that you cannot transfer all your documents onto the computer, but you can transfer whatever is possible and I believe that it should come to a substantial amount. The next thing that you can do is register for bills to be delivered to your e-mail account instead of getting paper bills delivered to your doorstep. The electronic method is much faster and safer than the "paper way". It is also friendlier to the environment.

I sincerely wish all you a very happy new year and hope that the new year has many good things to give all of you. I thought that I would let you people know of a little side thing that I have been doing to keep my finances proper and it has been really helpful in these troubled times. Well, I have been swing trading for the past one year and I must confess it is really exciting. Apart from the money, the other good thing about it is the excitement that comes along with it. Ha ha.. Hiya to all the people who are damn health conscious in this wonderful new year - welcome to the group. I am a dental care freak and it always freaks me out if my teeth are not clean and proper. See, ever since the day I can remember, I have always taken good care of my teeth and I would not want to let them be in the hands of some one I cannot trust. These people have EARNED my trust and I think that they deserve to take care of my teeth. I know that what I am saying may sound a bit obnoxious and high-handed, but when it comes to my teeth, I feel no pangs in being that way. My dental friends there say that dental technology has advanced a lot and they have all the latest equipment in order to treat their patients properly and give them the benefit of the latest technology in dentistry.

Statisticians say that the average lifespan of a person today has increased dramatically from what it was in days past. This may be attributed to better health care and various such advancements in the medical field. However, I remember stories that my grandparents used to say about their parents who never fell sick and were hale and hearty till the day they passed away. My perspective on the medical field today is that we have numerous problems that befall us and of course, we do have solutions for most of them. But we have created the problems ourselves and therefore it is inevitable that some medical ailment is going to befall each and every person somewhere down the line. I am going to bring up a very sensitive issue today regarding the raising of our children. I know that many parents that they know what is best for their kids. She told me that her kid was feeling very anxious all the time and also that he was becoming reluctant to go to school. I asked her what she was doing about it, and surprisingly, she told me that she had sent him to a reputed Theraputic Boarding High School so that he could recuperate properly from all the disorders that he had. This is when I realized that as parents this is the hardest thing for us to do - accept that our child has some kind of disorder and act upon it. It is true that we, as parents, sometimes turn a blind eye to the problems of our children.
